The backwater site, previously a forgotten and neglected dumping zone, was transformed into one of the world’s leading stadiums. This required extensive and carefully planned investment in bridges and access facilities to fully satisfy emergency evacuation requirements and to properly integrate with the local area.
The Arsenal on the Move project was recognised at the London Planning Awards ceremony as ‘The Best Built Project, 5 years on’. The scheme – which delivered the Emirates Stadium, over 3,000 new homes, commercial space, student accommodation, the regeneration of over 23 hectares of land within Islington, as well as significant community infrastructure benefits.
