Matchday Control and Management

A key part of the ‘integrated’ services that we offer for stadium planning and implementation, involves generating acceptable solutions for station management that permits safe operation on matchdays without any unacceptable impact on the general public. The tensions are obvious – after a game not everyone can get on the first train home and the level of matchday demand hugely exceeds normal operating circumstances. The process involves close liaison with the British Transport Police, the Train Operating Companies and Network Rail or London Underground. It is necessary to plan the train services in the first instance to maximize the short term capacity. Next, the demand forecasts need to be refined to optimize the dispersal routes where choices exist. Finally, physical control measures and protocols have to be prepared and agreed with all parties. The big change of late is that Police Authorities no longer manage crowds – this is now the responsibility of the stadium operators. Every situation is different but 15 years of relevant experience and a wide network of key contacts certainly makes the uncertain process more predictable when using Tim Spencer & Co.
